Testing of Spinal Implants

Questmed GmbH offers fatigue testing for spinal implants.
Static and fatigue testing will performed in compliance with ASTM F1717, ASTM F1798, ASTM F2077, ASTM F2193, ASTM F2267.

ASTM F1717 - Spinal Implant Constructs

Static and dynamic testing of spinal implant assemblies in a vertebrectomy model.
The static mechanical tests are compression bending, tensile bending, and torsion.
The dynamic test is a compression bending fatigue test.

ASTM F1798 - Spinal Arthrodesis Implants

Static and dynamic testing of strength, and resistance to loosening of the component interconnection mechanisms of spinal arthrodesis implants.
The static tests are A-P load (Fx), transverse load (Fy), axial gripping capacity (Fz), transverse moment (Mx), flexion-extension moment (My), and axial torque (Mz).
Static tests are performed for at least of five samples.
The dynamic test are A-P fatigue run-out (Fx), transverse fatigue run-out (Fy), axial fatigue run-out (Fz), transverse moment fatigue run-out (Mx), flexion extension moment fatigue run-out (My), and axial torsional fatigue run-out (Mz).
Dynamic tests are performed for 2.5 million cycles run-out.

ASTM F2077 - Intervertebral Body Fusion Device

Static and dynamic testing of strength, and resistance to loosening of the component interconnection mechanisms of spinal arthrodesis implants.
The static and dynamic tests are Axial Compression, Compression-Shear, Torsion.
Static tests are performed for at least of five samples.
Dynamic tests are performed for 5 million cycles run-out.

ASTM F2193 - Spinal Surgical Fixation

Static and dynamic testing for spinal screws, spinal rods and spinal plates.

ASTM F2267 - Intervertebral Body Fusion Device

Static measuring of load-induced subsidence of intervertebral body fusion device under static axial compression.
This static test is performed for at least of five samples.

Pull out resistance in the expulsion test for intervertebral body fusion devices

To determine the expulsion resistance of the intervertebral body fusion device static push-out testing will be carried out by a customized test setup.
This static test is performed for at least of five samples.
